Manchester United’s U23 drew 1-1 with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Friday night. Here are our player ratings for the match:
(Score of 6 is close to the average)
Radek Vitek – 6.5 – He was not disturbed by Arsenal’s half-chances. He could perhaps have done better to kick the ball at Arsenal’s goal initially, but it was a difficult defense.
Charlie Wellens – 7 – He was close to scoring on a hit from long range and was strong on the defensive, keeping Marcelo Flores from barely sniffing all night.
Will Fish – 7 – Strong from the back and didn’t give Arsenal much ability to work centrally and he was very controlled on the ball.
Rhys Bennett – 7 – He had one wobbly moment on the ball early on, but he sat next to Fish and had a good performance.
Alvaro Fernandez – 6.5 – He provided a spark in the attack with his skates and sharp passes, but was at times concerned about Kido Taylor-Hart’s pace and could have been stronger in some of the challenges.
Martin Svidersky – 7 – He helped control the midfield with his persistent attack and kept the ball moving straight, fast.
Charlie Savage – 7 – He controlled the midfield with his splashing passes from deep in the field as well as looking for opportunities to step forward and engage around the Arsenal field with a few clever touches and quick passes.
Noam Emeran – 8 – The main dangerous man of the night, Emeran’s pace and movements have given Arsenal all sorts of trouble. He did well and might have had a few assists if he had just fine-tuned the last pass.
Shola Shoretire – 6.5 – Fantastic assist pass and some better points in the second half, but it was almost anonymous in the first half.
Hannibal Mejbri – 6 – He had to settle for nothing but glimpses of moments where he was trying to make a meaningful contribution. I ran down the alleys and lost possession trying to force him, and it was better to keep it simple.
D’Mani Mellor – 7.5 – Works hard, as always, with his incessant pressure and the stretching of the spine line with his movement and running from behind. He could have left with a goal or two on a different day.
Isak Hansen-Aaroen – 6 – A few clever touchdowns on the left wing and moved the ball well, but he didn’t have much time to make a big impact.
Mateo Mejia – N / A – He hasn’t played long enough to make an impression.
