Three Manchester United players from Lionesss Euros – Man United News And Transfer News

Three Manchester United players have joined the England side of Sarina Wiegman at the Women’s Euro next month.

Mary Earps, Ella Toone and Alessia Russo were selected for Wiegman’s 23-man squad.

Earps was the number one Lioness goalkeeper in recent times and now has 16 international appearances, but she will hope to step up this throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, Toone, who was recently voted by the fans as United’s Player of the Year, has already scored two hat-tricks for England following her senior debut in 2020.

She has scored 10 goals in 13 appearances for England and will surely be one of England’s brightest young stars in this competition.

Alessia Russo has been named Player of the Year and hopes to have a similar impact on her country as this season at club level.

This season, she scored 11 goals for the Reds for the WSL.

Katie Zelem and Lucy Staniforth also made appearances in the opening line-up, but unfortunately they were among the five players who missed the selection.

Perhaps the team’s biggest omission is ex-captain Steph Houghton, who was excluded from the selection after a difficult season for a defender.

A total of eight reds can appear in euros, which are held in England.

Jackie Groenen was elected to the Netherlands, Vilde Boe Risa and Maria Thorisdottir could represent Norway, while Ona Batlle was elected to Spain and Signe Bruun to Denmark.

England face Austria at Old Trafford in the opening match of the tournament on July 7.
