Detroit Lions Poll: How many league games will Detroit win in 2022?

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, the NFL fan poll. Every week we ask the most connected questions Detroit Lions fans and fans all over the country.

With optimism flowing as much as it is now in Detroit, it is difficult to judge what the realistic expectations are. In the case of the Detroit Lions, the reality is that they are the team ending the 3-13-1 season – the second worst record in the NFL. For most, this would mean easing expectations for 2022 as almost everything can be considered last year’s improvement.

But at the same time, there are several reasons to believe Detroit is poised for more significant growth this year. It’s year 2 under this new regime which means players and coaches will be much more comfortable with their surroundings and plan. The Lions also ended last year, having won 3-3 in their last six games, suggesting they were significantly better than the team with three wins at the end of the season.

Perhaps one of the more compelling reasons to believe that the Lions can make a huge leap in victories this year is their schedule. By several indicators, they have one of the easiest schedules in the league and one of the reasons is their split.

Both the Bears and the Vikings have new CEOs and head coaches, meaning there is some redevelopment in both franchises, even if they still have some talent in their roster. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers are still considered contenders for the Super Bowl, but have lost two key pieces in this off-season to Davante Adams and Za’Darius Smith.

Last year, the Lions won two league games: their exciting last second win over Vikings and the season finale against Packers (with Green Bay’s second string playing the last two quarters). They came close to scoring a few more division wins, but lost in the last second of their game goals to both the Vikings in week 5 and the Bears on Thanksgiving.

So, with the noticeable improvement from the Lions and a few moving parts across the rest of the division, how many wins will Detroit have in its six league games?

That’s one of the questions this week in our Reacts survey. We will present the results later this week.

The second question this week concerns Detroit’s unique situation of recovery from serious injuries. Lions do ton players who either missed the end of the NFL or NCAA football season in 2021 could have an impact on their 2022 season. Jeff Okudah and Romeo Okwara are still recovering from a torn Achilles. Jerry Jacobs, Jameson Williams and James Mitchell are recovering from torn access control lists. Who in this group is most likely to have the best season in 2022?
