Australian mid laner Samu Kerevi has revealed that he has been in contact with England head coach Eddie Jones “all year long” before meeting the two teams in a critical series of three tests.

Kerevi admitted in April that he worked directly with Jones on the Japanese side of Suntory Sungoliath, a club where Jones has been a consultant for over 20 years.

However, his closeness to England’s rival players has long raised questions of conflict of interest.

Kerevi is set to start Australia’s first test against England at Perth on Saturday week.

“He is one of the world’s best rugby coaches, but he is also the best guy,” said Kerevi of Jones.

“I’ve talked to him all year and he sends me messages. When you sit down with him, he has great lessons for me as a player. That’s what I love about him.

“It gives me tips on where to improve. When he’s in Suntory, he wants the team and organization to improve. This has nothing to do with Wallabies or England.

“He’s only there to help Japanese players and foreigners.”

The fact that Jones is helping England’s players improve will no doubt enrage supporters in the country after a year in which the team has only won two games.

England have lost four of their six Six Nations games, beating only Italy and Wales.

This week they traveled to Australia after a humiliating 52-21 defeat to the 14-man Barbarian team.

The RFU has consistently insisted that there are no problems with the role of Jones Suntory, while it is understood that the man himself feels that he is using it just as much as players like Kerevi.

“I think it’s a storm in the cup. It’s not that it reveals any English secrets. He (Jones) is really a top man, ”said Kerevi, who apologized to Jones for his revelations after the Six Nations.
